Presented on July 27, 2021

This session shares current industry guidelines and best practices for the physical environment to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases in senior living campuses, focused primarily on skilled nursing facilities. Using industry guidelines and building examples, we will discuss how to assess the current conditions in your buildings, where the risk points are, and what modifications need to be considered for both the physical environment and infrastructure systems using short and long-term perspectives to create safer senior living communities for residents and staff.

Presenters will address how your air handling system is crucial to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and other airborne infectious diseases.  A checklist developed by Wold Architects and Engineers will be utilized to demonstrate how to specifically address a building's engineered systems and strategies that should be considered to ensure an environment is as safe as possible.

Participants will leave the session with a checklist to use on their campus and a resource list on where they can learn more.

Objectives

  • Assess the risk points in your building or campus where preventing or containing the spread of COVID-19 and airborne infectious diseases is challenging.
  • Identify quick, short-term, and long-term modifications and planning issues that need to be made to prevent the spread of COVID-19, flu epidemics, and other infectious diseases in the future.
