Under Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM), the Speech Language Pathology (SLP) component is influenced by specific patient characteristics that were found to be predictive of increased SLP services and cost. These factors include the primary reason for skilled care, SLP related comorbidities, the level of cognitive impairment, certain swallowing disorders, and/or the need for a mechanically altered diet. In this session, the presenters will review the factors that contribute to the SLP component of PDPM, discuss strategies used to communicate with the interdisciplinary team regarding SLP related comorbidities, and explain how SLP documentation can be used to support accurate Minimum Data Set (MDS) coding.
